Hotel Matterhorn Focus, Zermatt
Opened in June 2008 to critical acclaim, the luxurious Hotel Matterhorn Focus blends modern architecture with impressive interior design, furnishings and works or art by renowned Swiss designer and artist Heinz Julen.
Beautifully designed and built using an abundance of glass, local stone, steel and light wood, the Hotel Matterhorn Focus is a visually exciting bed and breakfast hotel. The floodlit public areas including lobby, lounge, breakfast room, spa area with its visible indoor and outdoor pools and a majority of rooms and suites offer unrivalled uninterrupted views of the Matterhorn.
Rooms and suites
Hotel Matterhorn Focus has spacious 30 rooms and suites, most of which have balconies with uninterrupted views of the Matterhorn or Zermatt. Choose from 3 standard doubles, 7 superior double rooms with Zermatt view, 10 deluxe doubles with Matterhorn view, 3 family rooms (45m˛) with Matterhorn view, 4 small suites (50m˛) with Matterhorn view, 3 large suites (70 m˛) also with Matterhorn view. All rooms and suites have en-suite shower or bath, hair dryer, dressing gown and slippers, cable TV, radio, safe, Wi-Fi and works of art by Heinz Julen to add that individual touch. Some suites include a free-standing bath, fireplace and kitchen. Up to two children aged 2-5 inclusive can stay free of charge in a double room occupied by their parents paying full rate.
Breakfast restaurant
As for culinary delights, the Hotel Matterhorn Focus is one of a new breed of popular designer bed and breakfast (Garni) hotels that do not serve lunch or dinner. Guests can enjoy a delicious breakfast in the hotel’s stylish breakfast restaurant and make their own arrangements for lunch and dinner which is in fact a bonus given that Zermatt has many fine restaurants including some of the best mountain restaurants in the Alps.
Attentive service
Your hosts Sonja and Christian Noti and their experienced staff will do all they can to help make your holiday memorable. They will be happy to recommend suitable restaurants on or off the mountain and to make your table reservations for you or to help book other activities and excursions including tandem flight paragliding, helicopter flights, guiding hiking tours or to help arrange outward and return travel to and from Zermatt for you.
Skiing
Zermatt is one of the leading resorts in Switzerland and among the best ski resorts in the world. There’s good skiing and snowboarding for all levels of ability including off-piste. The Hotel Matterhorn Focus is closest to Klein-Matterhorn cable car and not far from Gornergrat- and Sunnegga-Rothorn stations which are about a 5 minute walk from the hotel.
Wellness Oasis
The spacious Wellness Oasis at Hotel Matterhorn Focus is a perfect place to relax after a day on the mountains. State of the art facilities include a stunning indoor pool and outdoor whirlpool, heated couches, saltwater bath, caldarium, Finnish sauna and a rest area. Massage and beauty treatments are also available.
Conferences and Seminars
The Hotel Matterhorn Focus conference room (52m˛) is fully-equipped with the latest PC/DVD/Video and TV communications equipment for conferences and corporate events has flexible seating arrangements for up to 40 people. The conference room is also available for banquets, drinks receptions and private parties. There’s also a seminar room (16m˛) for smaller meetings.
Getting to Zermatt and the Hotel Matterhorn Focus
Zermatt is easily reached by train from Geneva and Zurich airports. The best route is via Visp and the Matterhorn-Gotthard Bahn with stunning views of the Walliser mountains. Alternatively you can drive from Bern (260km A12/A9), Geneva (237km A9) or Zurich (360km A1/A9) airports as far as Tasch (6km from car free Zermatt) then park in multi-story or outdoor car parks then take the shuttle train (every 20 minutes) up to Zermatt. Please telephone reception to arrange for the hotel’s electric taxi to pick you up at the station and bring you to the hotel.
