The Ski Resort of Les Saises

The Skiing
Cross Country
Les Saisies places as much emphasis on cross country skiing as it does on downhill. The 140km of Nordic pistes running through the beauty of the protected park offer everything from a gently undulating 3.7km circuit to the 32.9km Grande Boucle marathon. With 13 different routes through the trees, on a ski pass that is specific to the cross country area, this is arguably the best Nordic area in France. The host of the 1992 Winter Olympics biathlon events, Les Saises has a full rifle range on which you can try your hand at sending a .22 projectile through an 11cm hole from a range of 50 metres. This is not easy when you’re rested. Try it after a little exercise!
Alpine
Les Saisies boasts acres of wide open, beautifully groomed, clearly marked pistes and a lift system to move you around the ski area with ease. There’s skiing on both sides of the valley and panoramic views from the tops of Mont Bisanne and Chard de Beurre that will take your breath away.
With access to the whole of the Espace Diamant ski area, there are green, blue, red and black runs to suit every level of skier . A Beginners Zone, a Jardin d’Enfants and Slalom Stadium and, of course, plenty of snow making equipment attest to the attention to detail that is Les Saisies ski area. Truly family friendly.
Off piste
Beside the pistes, there’s plenty of free access powder where you can venture for a hundred yards if you’re learning or longer if you’re practicing with an easy return to the corduroy. And, when you’re ready, check the avalanche risk level, pack the proper equipment and head off to the runs through the trees, the Perdrix from the Legette or the Kamikaze from the Palette. And more…
Les Saisies is great for snow shoeing; you can hire ski-doos, be drawn by a horse, paraglide, climb and hike. And Escaladventure. An adventure on a range of different apparatus suspended in the trees - monkey bridges, zip wire, footbridges, mini via ferrata, and climbing, - adrenalin guaranteed.
The Village, Accommodation and Restaurants
With c15,000 beds for guests, Les Saises never feels crowded. Of the four main hotels, Les Very is the largest with only 120 beds and the beautifully converted farmhouse of La Ferme du Chozal has 11 rooms and sleeps 31.
The majority of the accommodation is chalets, apartments and bed and breakfast. Le Hameau du Beaufortain above the village is a beautifully constructed complex of apartments. With a spa, a gym, a Ski Set equipment hire shop on site, a deli run by the effervescent Fred and access to the slopes from the blue run down from Carrets, Le Hameau exemplifies not only the quality but also the charm of Les Saisies and it’s surrounds. There’s no shortage of gourmet eating both on and off the slopes of Les Saisies. The chef at La Ferme de Chozal is an artist, Christopher at Le Chalet de Marmottes is a host par excellence and Le Benetton on the mountain has a large sun terrace for your lunchtime delight. It is, of course, completely unfair to single out only three but the encouragement is for you to go and sample for yourself.
The shops, bars, pubs, nightclubs and a vibrant cinema add to the enchantment of the village.
