CairnGorm Celebrate Great Season with World Record 06-03-10
More than two hundred skiers and snowboarders have turned out to set a new world record for the most kilted people descending a ski slope. As reported last Thursday, organisers had hoped that as many as 600 skiers would descend from the Ptarmigan Top Station in a bid to highlight the good conditions at Scottish ski resorts this season. Though they didn’t reach that target, the 235 skiers who did turn up produced a ‘fantastic spectacle’, organisers said.
It has been the best ski season in Scotland in nearly a decade, with Ski Scotland revealing that total spending at Scottish ski resorts has exceeded £25 million this season. Local businesses have benefited from the excellent snowfall, which has not only allowed some resorts to extend their ski areas this season, but the possibility of more snow could see the season last as long as May.
