Dubai to Build Outdoor Ski Resort 05-07-08

Ras Al Khaimah, one of the Arab emirates, has unveiled plans to build a ski resort on its hills, despite the scorching heat in the region. The proposed resort will reach an altitude of 1,900 metres in the Hajjar Mountains, providing a real life alternative to the indoor ski slopes and ski resorts on offer in Dubai.

The resort will rely on the latest snowmaking technology which allows snow to be created in high temperatures. Such technology is already in use in Zermatt and Pitztal, though not in such extreme heat as Dubai.

The resort will also feature mountain bike trails and a golf course, whilst the luxury accommodation with which Dubai has become synonymous is also scheduled to be constructed.
