Heavy Snowfall in Victoria Ski Resorts 03-07-09
More than 30 centimetres of snow has fallen in the past 24 hours in ski resorts in the Australian state of Victoria. Temperatures once again fell below zero today as ski resorts enjoyed more snowfall. More heavy snowfall is expected, though residents of Victoria are being warned to also expect strong winds.
28cm of snow fell in the 24 hours up to 6am today at Falls Creek and has continued to fall since, allowing the ski resort to open two more lifts this weekend. Nearby Mt Hotham received 24cm of snowfall last night, meaning it will also be able to open more lifts this weekend in addition to the three it has opened as a result of the heavy snowfall. Meanwhile, Mt Buller has received 15cm of snow in the past 24 hours.
Skiers are expected to take to the slopes in vast numbers next week with schools in New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria all on holidays.
