Lanzinger to Sue International Ski Federation26-10-08
Former Austrian skier Matthias Lanzinger is to sue the International Ski Federation (FIS) following a crash that led to the amputation of his left leg. The 27 year old was participating in a World Cup super-G race in Kvitfjell in Norway on March 2nd when he endured the horrific crash. The FIS last week announced it is to tighten its safety requirements, but declined to comment on Lanzinger’s decision.
Lanzinger’s lawyer, Manfred Ainedter, would sue the FIS over alleged insufficient medical facilities at the race track. Mr Ainedter claimed that an expert report from a Munich based surgeon slammed the amount of time it took to get his client to the operating table, whilst also criticising the methods used to try to save his leg. Ainedter told the Austrian Press Agency, ‘The expert report proves black on white that my client was the victim of a botched job.
