Major Terrain Park Improvements at Mammoth 05-11-08

Mammoth Mountain will boast a number of improvements this season, having invested $750,000 over the summer. The most notable development is the expansion of the resort’s terrain park, which has been doubled in size, whilst the existing jumps have been shaped and graded. The resort now boasts seven terrain parks, three pipes, more than 60 jibs and over 50 jumps across the 90 acres of terrain.

The terrain park upgrade isn’t the only improvement to have been made, however, as significant developments have been made to the resort’s snowmaking facilities, new ‘Adventure Zones’ have been created and two new Piston Bully 400 Park Bully Snowcats have been purchased.

The Superpipe and Unbound Main Terrain Park will be the main beneficiaries of the improved snowmaking, which has been upgraded without any need for new air pipes or additional water.

The resort’s new four ‘Adventure Zones’ are family oriented fun areas that are designed to complement the Family Fun Parks already in place. The zones will offer new runs through trees with a variety of berms, rollers and small bumps strategically placed on the routes.

Oren Tanzer, Mammoth Mountain’s Director of Youth Action Sports Marketing, said ‘We thought it was more environmentally friendly to rearrange what we already had with better placement and layout, rather than putting more metal in the ground. This will allow us to have the best selection of features and earlier opening of Mammoth’s world-famous Superpipe’.
