Mountain Lodging Edges Closes at Snowbasin 13-07-10

The prospect of mountain lodging being built at Utah’s Snowbasin ski resort appears to be edging closer as the resort prepares to unveil plans for a 3,800 acre development to local residents. Snowbasin Resort is hosting an Open House this Thursday from 3:30pm to 6:30pm at Earl’s Lodge as it reveals the latest component of its 12,000 acre master plan.

Should the master plan be approved by the relevant local, state and federal authorities, visitors to Snowbasin would be able to stay near to the bottom of the mountain in the surrounding Weber and Morgan Counties.

As part of this master plan, Snowbasin applied in May to rezone 3,800 acres located in Weber County – including the ski area base – as part of the new Ogden Valley Destination and Recreation Resort Ordinance.

The Weber County plan includes retail and residential properties as well as a hotel, and would also see a series of neighbourhoods built in the County. The redevelopment does not mean to say Weber County will be completed transformed; indeed, just 20 per cent of the acreage will be used for the development, with 80 per cent preserved as open space.

Meanwhile, the proposed construction of properties in Morgan County would open up the possibility of expanding the ski area to include a second entrance to the area near the existing Strawberry Gondola.
