BA change Sporting Equipment Policy 05-08-09

British Airways has introduced a new set of regulations for customers flying with sports equipment. Coming into effect on 7th October, winter sports enthusiasts will find that their skis and snowboards will no longer be included as part of their free checked baggage allowance.

Customers will be charged £30 each way per bag weighing over 23kg. There is also a maximum weight allowance of 32kg and a size restriction of 190cm x 75cm x 65cm. Additional charges have also been added to long haul flights affecting skiers travelling to North America. Those checking in online will receive a small discount in costs.

British Airways explained that “These are tough economic times and many other airlines already charge for baggage and the benefit of carrying sporting equipment.”
