Ski Operator Axes 40pc of Ski Chalet Deals 30-06-09
Britain’s largest ski operator has revealed that it is to reduce the number of chalets it is offering for next season. TUI Britain is to cut its number of chalets by 40 per cent, meaning skiers will have more limited accommodation choices for next season. The move follows a 20 per cent per cent year on year bookings decline at the group’s ski companies, and TUI Travel appear to be anticipating a similar trend this season.
Despite a 0.5 per cent decline in visitor numbers, France remains the most popular ski destination for British skiers. Austria and Italy were the only major ski destinations to enjoy an increase in the numbers of British visitors, whilst Switzerland held its 6 per cent market share. North American ski resorts throughout the US and Canada attracted fewer British skiers as a result of the economic downturn and the weakening of the dollar.
