Skiers Priced Out of Trans-Atlantic Trips 30-08-08

Fewer skiers are considering going to America this season, according to The Crystal Ski Industry Report. The report claims that rising fuel costs and the innumerate surcharges faced by passengers are pricing many would be holidaymakers out of a holiday to the US. Despite good snow throughout America last season, the market remained static quashing the hopes of US ski resorts that more skiers would take advantage of the weakness of the dollar.

Despite these concerns, there are hopes that airlines may attempt to stimulate the market with special offers. Michael Bennett, the managing director of Ski Independence, said, ‘As I understand it, the airlines have seen North American demand softening, so I’d expect tactical offers and discounts to come into play in the autumn which should help to get prices back on track. We’ve now had confirmation that there are some exceptional tactical fares to the US on sale, with Canadian fares to follow. Looking at the new fares, we’re very confident that the reductions will restimulate the market and we expect strong demand from this point on’.
