Following Sierra Nevada’s early opening, the resort has experienced an extremely successful first week. More than 7,000 skiers took to the Spanish resort’s slopes during their opening week, looking to take advantage of the resort’s fresh snow and sunny conditions. As much as 50cm of fresh powder fell during the resort’s opening weekend, making it the resort’s most successful start to a season in 20 years.
The resort had been scheduled to open this coming Saturday, though as one of Europe’s highest resorts, it has been able to bring forward that date and has opened 33km in the past week. It is the latest boost for the ski resort, which was one of 15 new ski resorts added by ski operator Crystal Ski for the 2008/09 season. New direct flights to Huesca has significantly cut transfer time to just over 1 hour.
