Developers for the SnOasis indoor snow centre in Suffolk will learn their fate soon with the government’s verdict on the proposals due to be announced on September 17th. The development has been the subject of a long and hostile public enquiry following significant opposition from environmentalists. The outcome will be announced by Hazel Blears, the government minister for communities and local government. Mrs Blears has already revealed her hope that the centre will be approved – so long as the developers address environmental concerns.
The debate concerns the habitat of great crested newts, which environmentalists fear is being infringed by the £300 million development. However, Onslow Suffolk experts assert that sufficient habitat is being provided for the newts, and have offered an extra nine acres of land nearby in an attempt to allay any fears.
