Swiss Resorts Report Rise in Visitor Numbers 15-10-08

Swiss ski resorts have reported an increase in visitors numbers during the 2007/08 season. 28.7 million skier days were recorded across Swiss ski resorts, representing an 18.4 per cent increase on the previous year. It was Switzerland’s best season for four years, whilst turnover experienced a similar improvement. Davos-Klosters and Zermatt were the most popular Swiss resorts, with each attracting a total of 2.5 million skier days.

Although there are concerns that the global credit crunch may impact on visitor numbers next year, there are some very positive signs for Swiss resorts so far. Gregoe Koncilja, Swiss International Air Lines’ Country Manager for the UK & Ireland, revealed, ‘Our booking figures to Switzerland are up by 28 per cent in January and 26 per cent in February compared to last year’s’. The increasing number of Swiss destinations available through the UK’s leading tour operators will undoubtedly help Swiss resorts, with Crystal adding six new Swiss resorts – more than for any other country.
