Bariloche Lift System
Catedral Uses the Ski Data handsfree system for all of its lifts; this reduces the queuing time and allows hassle free access to the slopes. It is the most advanced and agile system in the whole of South America and works extremely efficiently. Now that the 3-year modernisation program (which started in 2004) is complete, the 39 lifts can carry up to 35,000 riders per hour. The lifts open promptly at 9am and close at 5pm, with the new Sextuple Express lift carrying 1800 riders per hour over 2,500 metres. The Telecabina Amancay is the biggest lift and carries 2,000 people per hour 2,000 metres in 125 cabins.
The chair lift system is being further updated over the next 3 years (work to be completed in 2011) when there will be a number of new high speed 6 man lifts to replace some of the double and triple chair lifts. The latest addition to the lift system is the Nubes Quadruple Chairlift (2007) which, despite still being susceptible to closure in harsher weather, is able to carry 1,200 riders per hour at a speed of 5 metres per second. This lift has opened up a whole new skiable area and a new restaurant - Las Nubes - has opened to accommodate skiers in the south section of the resort.
