Lift-System
The ski area on Diedamskopf (2096m) and Falzer Kopf (1968m) is adequately served by half a dozen ski lifts; the main ones being the Diedamskopf 8-person gondolabahn from the valley lift station (820m) to Diedamskopf, and the Panoramabahn and Breitenalp chairlifts. Diedamskopf runs face south-east and are sunnier than shadier Falzerkopf slopes pointing south west.

Ski Schools & Guiding
The 50 Diedamskopf ski and snowboarding instructors offer group tuition and private lessons for all ability levels including novice skiers and boarders who can be started on the reasonable sized nursery slope next to the bottom lift station.

Advanced Skiing
Number 15 on Breitenalp is a nearly straight black run with a near 40 degree pitch, easily visible from the Diedamskopf side, sometimes closed and best skied with sharp edges or when deep in powder.

Intermediate Skiing
The ski area is generally best for intermediates and above, not least because the grading of some runs, such as blue 20 and red 4, overlooks the degree of steepness and difficulty encountered at the beginning of these runs.

Beginner Skiing
The ski area at au-Schoppernau includes some easy runs for beginners.

Boarding & Freestyle
Sajas Forumpark (www.diedamspark.at) is one of the best in the region and a major attraction for boarders and freestyle skiers.

Mountain restaurants
There are three restaurants on the mountain, including the Wedelstube at Diedamskopf middle station, the 350-seater self-service Panorama restaurant at the top station which has a large sun terrace and Stern bar, and the Käsker Breitenalpe restaurant.

Village
The centres of Au and Schoppernau are about 2km apart and all houses and farm buildings in the villages are traditional Bregenzerwald style.

Accommodation
What Au and Schoppernau lack in terms of après ski, is more than compensated for by an excellent selection of affordable hotel accommodation. In this respect Bregenzerwald punches well above its weight, both in terms of quality and price, with many good hotels, pensions and self-catering apartments at prices cheaper than comparable ski accommodation in better known resorts.

Apres-Ski
There’s a small après ski bar next to the bottom lift station but generally not much in the way of après ski at village level as most guests are happier relaxing in the comfort of their hotel.

Other Information
In keeping with ski resorts around the world, activity in Au-Schoppernau is not restricted to the mountain. more...
