Where to stay in Whistler
Unfortunately due to the geography of the area and high amount of residential development there is a lack of true ski-in ski-out accommodation in Whistler. Only Cedar Creek, Painted Cliff and the Marriott Residence Inn allow you to ski straight to your back door from the Magic Chair on Blackcomb.
The choice runs from self-catering suites and condos to bed and breakfasts, two and three-bedroom townhouses, and a good selection of hotels. For those on a budget and wanting to self cater, the standard of accommodations is still very high and a one-bedroom den unit will sleep three, but those seeking higher levels of luxury will find plenty of places to splash out in. If you are booking a townhouse or chalet in the valley, you may have to commute to the Village on the bus every day to ski. If you are staying a bus ride away from the mountain be sure to check your equipment in at the storage facilities in the base lodges.
Some hotels are large and expensive, like the Westin Resort & Spa at the foot of Whistler Mountain, and the Fairmont Chateau Whistler over at Blackcomb, but there are cheaper well-situated hotels like Crystal Lodge and Listel Whistler Hotel, as well as smaller alternatives like the charming Chalet Louise in Village North, with just eight bedrooms. The new Nita Lake Lodge in Creekside is a new kind of ‘boutique hotel’ that prides itself on being unique experience through its design and personalized guest service.
For backpackers there are a few options for dormitory style accommodation. The cheapest is the Whistler HI, located right on Alta Lake. Unfortunately it’s quite remote from the village and is serviced by only four buses per day. The Southside Lodge in Creekside is convenient and gets great reviews. The noisy UBC Lodge has limited privacy and is frequented by school groups.
