Chamonix Accommodation

Chamonix has a number of very classy and expensive hotels, but there is also dorm-style accommodation for budget skiers.
There is no ski in/ski out accommodation in Chamonix, but there are certainly some special places to stay. The 4-star Albert Premièr is without doubt the most luxurious hotel in town; its two Michelin starred restaurant is very difficult to get a table at unless you are a hotel guest. Also 4-star and more centrally located are the Auberge du Bois Prin, the Mont Blanc and Grand Hotel des Alpes, and out of town in Lavancher the Jeu de Paume is also recommended. The Clubhouse is a novel concept, a kind of hybrid of boutique hotel and member’s club and very successfully styled along the lines of the Milk and Honey bars in London and New York. Les Balcons du Savoy in Chamonix has well-appointed 4-star serviced apartments.

The Hotel Les Grand Montets is a 2 minute walk from the Grands Montets cable car with easy access to one of Chamonix Mont Blanc’s best ski areas.
This is one of the best 3-star hotels in the Chamonix Mont Blanc valley.

A substantial proportion of Chamonix property is privately owned and used more in summer than winter, leaving many of the most interesting looking buildings off limits to visitors. But you can stay in beautifully furnished antique chalets, run by specialist firms Collineige and Prestige Company, with plush living and very good eating. At the other end of the scale there are also budget options, including very cheap dorm accommodation at the Vagabond in Chamonix or Randonneurs in Argentière, reflecting the percentage of skiers in Chamonix who come more to ski than to sleep. In between is a reasonable range of self catering apartments, 2- and 3-star hotels such as Croix-Blanche, Aiglons, Hotel Vallée Blanche and Prieuré in Chamonix while over in Arentiere the 3-star Montana, Grand Montets and the 2-star Le Dahu.

Since there is no single perfect location for the skiing in Chamonix (you’ll need to use a bus or car at some point to reach some, if not all, of the ski areas), it’s more important to consider the position of your accommodation in relation to nightlife and transport links.
