The Les Arcs ESF pioneered the use of short skis to teach carving turns and are generally regarded to be forward-thinking but are still prone to large class sizes (to the immense irritation of recreational skiers trying to get round them as they ski down the piste in great crocodiles). They have bases throughout the resort apart from Arc 1950, whose Spirit 1950 pride themselves on small class sizes and teaching children in a safe environment. Other alternatives include the British ski school New Generation and Arc Adventures, part of the international ski school. There are good children's areas across the region, notably at 1800, and children under six ski free.
