Val D Isere Accommodation

With more than 28,000 beds in the resort – about 2700 in the resort’s 40 odd hotels, along with literally hundreds of chalets and thousands of self-catering apartments –there is certainly no lack of accommodation in Val d’Isère. Relatively hotels are quite expensive, although there is a wide range and something for most budgets. Given the massive choice of restaurants, decisions about half board or B&B are important. Some hotels, notably La Savoyarde and Les Latitudes offer French cuisine of significant order as part of their half board or as restaurants to visit.
Pride of place among the hotels goes to the recently built 4 star Les Barmes de l’Ours. Tucked away atnear the foot of the famous Olympic ski run and just a few steps from the village centre, the hotel offers contrasting styles – Scandinavian, North American and Alpine – in its luxurious neo-rustic rooms, and a spa and pool.
The traditional chalet-style Christiania is a much older, more traditional four-star hotel. Its interior, along with that of another four-4 star hotel, the Latitudes, has been transformed recently – Tthe latter almost beyond recognition. The attractively wooden-clad 4 star Hotel Blizzard is popular, while the three-comfortable 3 star hotels Savoyarde and Tsanteleina enjoy a strong British following. The Hotel Les Sorbiers is in a renovated, wood-and-stone chalet style close to the old quarter. At the foot of the main lifts and adjacent to the ski school meeting point, the Brussels has one of the resort’s best locations, just a short stroll from the village centre. The Austrian Ski Team have long favoured the Grand Paradis.
At the lower end of the scale two star accommodation such as the superbly located Les Cretes Blanches provides pretty good value by Val standards. For apartments, the central booking office is a good place to start.
British tour operators, especially YSE and V.I.P. dominate the chalet market, and among the most luxurious are Descent International’s Eléphant Blanc and Scott Dunn Ski’s Eagle’s Nest.
