Monterosa Accommodation
There are several good 3 and 4 star hotels in the village of Champoluc. The hotels are largely located on the road that runs from the main square (Hotel Relais des Glacier, Hotel Castor, Hotel Aiglon), up past the Crest Gondola (Hotel de Champoluc), towards Villy (Petit Tournalin, Hotel Le Rocher), the Frachey lift and finally to the hamlet of St Jacques. The four star Breithorn has a sister chalet high in the hills, accessed only by skidoo in winter, which can be rented by small groups as an exclusive retreat. Never failing to make an impression, the Hotel California has musically themed rooms, with startling design and the relevant song piping through whenever you hit the light switch. Choose your room with care.
Antagnod is an attractive village, just over 4km from Champoluc. It has its own small ski area with a dedicated children’s section, and a couple of longish blue/red runs. The Hotel Petit Prince has good quality 3 star accommodation close to the pistes, at reasonable prices.
A regular ski bus operates in the Champoluc valley and connects the main square with both of the lifts which give access to the ski area, as well as the neighbouring villages of Periasc, Brusson and Antagnod.

Gressoney
Chalets and apartments are spread along the valley from Stafal to St Jean, while most of the hotels, bars, restaurants and shops are in La Trinite and St Jean. This is also where many of the ‘residences’ are located, which supply most of the guest accommodation in the valley. 'Residences' are halfway between apartments and hotels - self-catered but with a managed reception and a variety of facilities. Even the simplest are of high quality and provide excellent value for money.
The entire valley is served by an efficient bus service – not normally overcrowded by ski bus standards, and usually running bang on time, though there is less than one per hour during the middle of the day. The main service has been extended with a ‘navetta’ shuttle between St Jean and La Trinite. A multi-day ski pass allows free use of the buses and they are an effective way to access the ski areas provided you can work to a timetable.

Alagna
Alagna is the smallest accommodation base in Monterosa, with a couple of hotels and a few apartment options and main ski lift departing from the town centre which makes it a convenient place to stay. The Hotel Cristallo is a newly refurbished 4 star hotel in the centre of Alagna which offers a high standard of accommodation, excellent leisure facilities and fine dining. The delightful small Hotel Montagna di Luce, is situated in the Walser hamlet of Pedemonte.
Also of note are the new Pietre Gemelle apartments, in neighbouring Riva Valdobbia, 3km from central Alagna (You may prefer to have a hire car when staying in these apartments, though they do offer a shuttle service to and from the Alagna lifts). Rifugio Guglielmina, on the mountain at Col d’Olen 2880m, is one of the heli starting points. It’s a prime position for a hardy few - but you need to be able to ski with your luggage to get there! Rustic, with 50 double rooms.
