Lift system

The lift system is reasonably up to date across the region.

The major connections have all been modernised in recent years, but there will always be high season capacity problems due to the nature of the area – the Sella Ronda in particular is essentially a series of potential bottlenecks and it’s hard to see how the restrictions of the topography could ever be overcome by technology. But throughout the area they’ve worked on connections within and between villages to take pressure off the single road that links the various villages, and to reduce the need for car-parking. Shuttle buses and moving walkways are the answer, with the whole valley well connected by skibus (there’s a nominal charge – currently 3 Euros - for a seven day pass).

Some of the recent on-mountain investment has improved the Sella Ronda circuit anit-clockwise, making it now equally good in both directions.

Val Gardena has 84 lifts – 8 gondolas/cable cars and the remainder mainly chairlifts. Though there are still many draglifts they tend to be in beginner areas and can frequently be by-passed. Total uphill capacity within the valley is 105,000 people per hour. The latest improvements include the Paradiso/Goldknopf lift on the Seiser Alm where a detachable 6 persons chair replaces a 2 seater and new detachable quads at Sochers and Sotsaslong.
