Leukerbad Ski Resort

Leukerbad is a popular all year round destination and is among the top 5 tourist destinations in Valais with around 1 million overnight stays per year. The local tourist economy is built around the thriving spa culture and the winter sports with a wide selection of accommodation. This includes over 20 hotels and self-catering apartments rated from 1-5 stars and a reasonable selection of restaurants.
With nearly 4 million litres of hot water (up to 51 degrees Celcius) flowing daily from 65 thermal springs into 30 thermal baths, Leukerbad’s trend setting Alpine wellness themes offer an incredibly wide range of choice with many different treatments for pampering, fitness and health. There’s so much hot water naturally available, it’s even used to heat the steepest road in the village to keep it free of snow!
Leukerbad is surrounded by cliffs, most notably the impressive Daubenhorn (2,942m) and the striking rock faces of the Gemmi (2,322m), which tower above the village (1,411m). The ski area is small yet enjoyable with half a dozen ski lifts serving 50km of marked runs. Most of the skiing is on easy red and black runs including long descents from the highest chairlift (2,610m) all the way down to bottom lift stations at 1,450m.
Leukerbad’s Park Erli on the edge of the town is a superb learning area for children and novices but there are only a couple of blue runs in the main ski area on Torrent which so it’s not ideal for beginners. Best for intermediates and above, Leukerbad is easily reached via either Geneva or Zurich airports and is an interesting ski and spa destination for a weekend or other short break skiing holiday.
