Smugglers' Notch

Over half the area is made up of intermediate terrain. Both Madonna and Sterling Mountains have a variety of blue trails.

Rum Runner and Black Snake trail top to bottom on Sterling, while two scenic trails start from the Madonna summit: the Chilcoot and the Drifter. The Chilcoot winds over the backside of the mountain before returning to the main face. The Drifter hugs the saddle of the mountain for views across the chain of the Green Mountains, before opening to wide meadows and gently gladed areas. All of this is ideal intermediate skiing but despite the high proportion of this type of trail, there will still be a lack of mileage for keen piste-bashers intent upon skiing more than a couple of days at the resort.
