Ischgl / Beginner

Although Ischgl is not primarily a beginners' resort, high-altitude nursery slopes are snow-sure and sunny.

Beginners must take the Silvrettabahn gondola from Ischgl village centre up to Idalp. The ski school has offices here and there are ski, board and boot hire shops. But lessons should have been organised beforehand at the ski school office in the village.

Although Ischgl is not primarily a beginners' resort, the fact that the nursery slopes are at high altitude means that they are snow-sure and sunny. They are served by their own dedicated drag and chair lifts and are suitably adjacent to pleasant blue runs for easy progression.

Ischgl's ski schools and kindergarten
There is only one ski school in the village (05444 5257 or 5404). Five days' lessons, morning and afternoon, cost 156 euros. Private lessons are 114 euros for two hours, with each additional person costing 16 euros.

There is a kindergarten, run by the ski school at Idalp, for non-skiing children where they are looked after between 10am and 4pm. The ski kindergarten is for ages three to five, costing 41 euros a day, lunch included. The normal ski school takes children from five. For children there is also an enclosed learning area, complete with adventure garden and cartoon characters to ski through and around.

All ski school classes meet at Idalp, and the school is proud of its reputation for care and fast progress of students. Not all instructors speak good English (the British market here is dwarfed by the German), so it is wise to make sure you specify you need an English speaker when you book.
