Ski touring

St. Anton offers many off-piste options, ranging from the easy Rendl Scharte to the challenging Ferwall side of the Maroikopf.
Rendl – Hockar
This short day tour offers minimum ascent for maximum descent, only 45 minute climbing with skins to gain 250 vertical meters will present over 1,200 meters of outstanding north facing powder taking you on a journey through high alpine scenery leading to dense forest trails ending in St. Jacob on the edge of St. Anton. To reach this area you must first ski into Hinter Rendl and then skin up the west face to gain the Hochkar Spitze summit. The entry point is complicated between cliffs so you should seek information before engaging on this tour from the ski school or Piste To Powder Guides in town. Better still take a guide.

Rendl Scharte
Popular with many groups due to its ease of access and non challenging terrain Rendl Scharte is a perfect introduction to the world of booting or climbing with skins for rewarding skiing! It’s possible to walk the route but skinning will ease the job slightly. A climb of only 200 vertical meters opens up access to a wonderful valley set in unspoiled alpine scenery. The descent is both great early and late season if the correct lines are chosen on the descent. From the Riffel 2 chair lift ski 250 meters into Hinter Rendl and after skins are donned gain the col and enjoy a rest before the ski.
