St Anton Ski Resort Beginner

St Anton / Beginner

Although St Anton is geared more towards experienced skiers, there are good beginner runs at Rendl, Nasserein and from Galzig to St Christoph.

Most of the ski area is unsuitable for complete beginners and first time skiers may wish to consider other resorts. That said, new terrain modeling and lift improvements in 2003 have improved the selection of beginner runs and you should make good progress under the tuition of the local ski schools: if you learn to ski in St. Anton, you should be comfortable skiing any other resort.

The best novice skiing is on the nursery slopes at Nasserein and above the restaurant at Gampen. From there you can progress higher up the mountain to access blue runs down from Kapall or over on Galzig where the slopes beside Osthang chairlift are a good training ground and popular with ski schools.

The long blue run (No.8) from Galzig to St. Christoph is a classic and especially rewarding in good weather with a pit stop for lunch or to enjoy a drink on the sun terrace outside the famous Hospiz Alm restaurant at the bottom of the run. The run down to St Christoph can be quite busy and includes a middle section which may intimidate nervous beginners, but skied slowly and with help it can be done and is worth tackling if only to sample the delightful Hospiz Alm on arrival in St Christoph - undoubtedly one of the best mountain restaurants wordwide and a great place to hide away in a white out.

Beginners will also feel comfortable at Rendl on blue runs close to the main restaurant and lift station. But the higher reaches and the descent to the village vary in difficulty from blue to red and can be tough for novices especially when conditions are icy. Also it is a long run down and once committed you have to ski all the way down, there being no lifts to help you exit.
