This means it’s a long way from anywhere including the larger cities of Calgary and Edmonton. Jasper lies 265 miles (426 km) northwest of Calgary and 235 miles (378 km) west of Edmonton. It’s a five-hour drive from Calgary, or three hours from Edmonton on the all-weather four-lane Trans-Canada highway and Yellowhead Trail Highway 16. The ski area is also 190 miles (330 km) west and north of the Banff resorts, and is connected via Highway 1 and one of the most spectacular mountain highways anywhere —the Icefields Parkway—a two-hour drive past ancient glaciers and towering peaks. You can also get to Jasper by rail. It’s a five-hour trip from Edmonton, or 17 hours (overnight) from Vancouver on board “The Canadian” and this is a recommended trip in itself. Those on a budget can also access Jasper via Greyhound buses.
