Chamonix / Accommodation
A substantial proportion of Chamonix property is privately owned and used more in summer than winter, leaving many of the most interesting looking buildings off limits to visitors. But you can stay in beautifully furnished antique chalets, run by specialist firms Collineige and Prestige Company, with plush living and very good eating. At the other end of the scale there are also budget options, including very cheap dorm accommodation at the Vagabond in Chamonix or Randonneurs in Argentière, reflecting the percentage of skiers in Chamonix who come more to ski than to sleep. In between is a reasonable range of self catering apartments, 2- and 3-star hotels such as Croix-Blanche, Aiglons, Hotel Vallée Blanche and Prieuré in Chamonix while over in Arentiere the 3-star Montana, Grand Montets and the 2-star Le Dahu.
Since there is no single perfect location for the skiing in Chamonix (you’ll need to use a bus or car at some point to reach some, if not all, of the ski areas), it’s more important to consider the position of your accommodation in relation to nightlife and transport links.
