Val Thorens / Beginner

Beginners in Val Thorens can get cold and disorientated in bad weather; Les Menuires offers them a cheap ski pass.

Val Thorens offers mixed fortunes for beginners; in good conditions it is perfect, with nursery slopes situated right next to the resort and a pleasantly progressive network of blues expanding out from the resort centre. However, in poor weather beginners can get very cold, disorientated and frustrated by the lack of visibility.

Les Menuires and St Martin
There is a dedicated beginners area just above the Croisette area, but the problems arise when you're ready to progress onto blues: the local blues tend to have poorer snow and lots of traffic. There is, however, a good-value beginners ski pass which includes six half-day lessons and gives access to 16 ski lifts.
