Off the mountain
Village
Treble Cone draws most of its visitors from the idyllic lakeside town of Wanaka (small town, big lake) where the atmosphere is in almost total contrast to the bustling tourist town of Queenstown, 64 miles away if you take the closest route along New Zealand’s highest main road. Dominated by the sleepy lake – 42km by 10km – Wanaka is at the heart of the Mount Aspiring National Park, and arguably more of a skiers’ town than the tourist town of Queenstown. But since it is also smaller, accommodation becomes harder to find during the peak season. more...
Apres ski
There is little après ski on the mountain, and even
in town things are usually fairly quiet – certainly compared with the
raucous bustle of Queenstown. But Wanaka is big enough to have quite a
wide range of bars and restaurants for after-hours entertainment once
the lifts have shut.
