For upscale accommodations in the US$200 to US$375 per night bracket, try The Village at Breckenridge (800-800-7829; 970-453-2000) with its on-site health club facilities, indoor/outdoor pools, hot tubs, racquetball, steam, sauna and exercise room. It surrounds the Peak 9 base area and is located next to the Quicksilver Super-Six chair. Also at the top end is The Great Divide Lodge (800-321-8444; 970-453-4500). New owners Vail Resorts poured $4 million into remodeling the guestrooms, lobby and pool area, and it’s only 50 yards (45 m) from the slopes.

For those on a tighter budget the Breckenridge Mountain Lodge offers a rough, log cabin exterior with warm, Wild West hospitality inside from US$100 a night. Located at the south end of Main Street, it’s just a couple of minutes from the ski lifts and rentals. There are also budget accommodations options, and other good-value deals to be had at www.skivillagelodging.com for as many as six people squeezing into a two-bedroom condo.
