Thanks to the terrain on offer, the ski school is well regarded not just for beginners, but also to help strong skiers learn advanced skills. A cost-effective “workshop,” with at most four participants, in the Extreme Limits terrain is a unique opportunity to learn to ski exceptionally challenging trails, rather than merely survive them. Crested Butte is also the venue chosen by a number of specialist ski clinics, including two time World Extreme Skiing champion, Kim Reichhelm’s women-only ski adventures.
Adult group lessons start at 9:45 am and workshops (maximum of four) at 9:45 am and 1:15 pm. Private lessons are from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm. In Kids’ World, all-day lessons start at 8:30 am, half-day lessons at 9:30 am or 1:00 pm. The minimum age for children is three years. Daycare and non-skiing activities are available for kids aged 6 months to three years, and there is lunchtime supervision, allowing parents a full day’s skiing.
Group sizes are dependent on the season—they are bigger in busy periods, but ski school will never turn anyone away. Prices for adults—private lessons: 2 hours, 1 person US$180; 3 hours, 1 person, US$245; 6 hours (all day) 1–5 people US$435; 2.5-hour workshop US$75; group lessons US$60 (additional lessons US$55); complete beginner lessons, 3 hours and lift ticket, US$75. Daycare costs US$12 per hour or US$70 all day, 8:30 am–4:30 pm.
