It wasn’t so long ago that the resort of Winter Park comprised a couple
of ski services buildings and the lift terminal, but that has changed
with the development of Zephyr Mountain Lodge, right at the base of the
resort.
The resort now has its first ski-in, ski-out accommodations,
with 230 luxury units at the base of the slopes, as well as a
restaurant and shops. The town of Winter Park lies two miles (3
km) north of the resort, and is concentrated along a half-mile (0.8 km)
stretch of road with most stores, restaurants, bars, and lodgings along
Highway 40. There are restaurants to satisfy any palate and a large
selection of lodging properties from bed & breakfasts to luxury
slopeside accommodations. Intrawest, owners of Copper Mountain,
Whistler Blackcomb and seven other ski resorts, took over management in
December of 2002, so expect things to happen on the mountain as well as
the base.
