Warth-Schroecken is one of three main ski areas in Bregenzerwald offering snow-sure family skiing, good possibilities for off-piste skiing and a choice of competitively priced accommodation to suit all budgets including many good hotels.
Situated 10km apart, either side of the ski area, Warth and Schroecken are pretty alpine villages with a good snow record (an average snowfall of 11 metres each winter). The 68km Warth-Schroecken ski area borders the Arlberg and the link to Lech will be completed in time for the 2013/14 seaon. It is already possible to ski off-piste between Warth and Lech.
Warth-Schroecken has an efficient high speed lift system and good facilities for beginners and children close to the main lift stations. The ski terrain is best for beginners and advanced skiers interested in skiing off-piste and, while there's not a huge amount of red run skiing, what's on offer is good and there's more nearby at Diedamskopf and Daműls.
There's lots of good value family friendly accommodation from budget self-catering apartments to luxury 4-star hotels and good quality 3-star hotels in between; and it's typically cheaper than comparable accommodation in better known Austrian ski resorts.
Apres ski is a low key affair Warth and Schrocken are small ski villages so there's not a great deal to do in winter besides skiing and other wintersports including winter walking, cross-country skiing, dog sledding, snow shoeing and tobogganing.
Getting to Warth-Schroecken is easy. It takes between 1 hour 45 minutes and 2 hours 15 minutes from Friedrichshafen, Memmingen and Zurich airports.
