Bulgarian Dreams

Bulgaria has recently become one of Europe’s leading ski spots and is gaining in popularity as an easily accessible budget ski holiday and sporting destination. Boasting three top ski resorts; Bansko, Pamporovo, and Borovets, Bulgaria caters for skiers and snowboarders of all ages and abilities.
Bansko, Bulgaria's best-known and most modern resort, is renowned for its friendly atmosphere, affordable rates, excellent snow record and longest ski season stretching from December to May. Located in the UNESCO protected Pirin National Park, it boasts 85 km of well-groomed slopes with runs for all types of skiers with guaranteed winter snow coverage - thanks to the resort’s high altitude and snow cannons. The resort is divided into two regions: the lower region, of Chalin Valog which rises up to 1,600 meters and the higher region of Shiligarnika which peaks at 2,850 meters.

Bansko has excellent well-groomed tree lined pistes and an efficient infrastructure consisting of slalom and giant slalom runs, two snowboard runs, a half pipe where ski and snowboard competitions are held daily, and a Fun Park where enthusiasts can ski and snowboard over man-made bumps and jumps. Ski school classes are available for adults and children, along with a special kids-only ski run. The resort was awarded, “Best Developed Ski Resort in Eastern Europe” by the 2007 Great Skiing & Snowboarding Guide.

Govisistbulgaria.com has a range of accommodation options available in the resorts. Cedar Lodge III is one the closest developments in Bansko to the main gondola lift with on site facilities including an indoor swimming pool, gym, Jacuzzi, sauna, ski-room, coffee shop and fully licensed bar and lounge area. Self catering accommodation ranges from studio to two bedroom apartments each featuring balconies with open plan interiors and spectacular views across the mountains.

Pamporovo is set in the southern Rhodope Mountains at an altitude of 1620 meters above sea level. The resort boasts 25 km ski-runs
served by 18 ski lifts and 38 km cross-country skiing tracks. Four snow-leveling machines and 6 snow cannons guarantee skiers comfortable and enjoyable downhill rides. The quaint town offers a range of bars and restaurants for après ski activities.

Enjoying an elevated position on a sweeping hillside surrounded by virgin pine forest, Cedar Heights property by Bulgarian Dreams offers a range of affordable self catering accommodation with excellent on-site facilities and panoramic views across the Rhodopi mountains. The main ski lift is located just 5 minutes away.

For the price of a mid-week ski package at an overcrowded Alpine resort, ski resorts in Bulgaria offer fantastic opportunities to explore one of the youngest members of the EU.

Accommodation prices start from just €30 per night for a studio apartment sleeping two people, to €90 per night for a large luxury two bedroom apartment sleeping six, that's just €15 per night each!

Lift passes are also cheaper than Alpine resorts with a week’s pass in Bansko costing €140 compared with €190 or more in France. An average meal will cost €5-7 per head, while drinks are as cheap as 60cents to €1.

Easyjet offers direct flights from Gatwick to Sofia starting at just £51 return including all taxes. Sofia is just a two hour drive away from the main ski resorts.
