Keystone, USA to open a week early on November 3

Cancel your plans: Keystone ski resort opens a week early!

Three feet of snow in October has meant Keystone, Colorado, will open on November 3, a week earlier than originally scheduled. The cold temperatures are perfect for testing the new snowmaking equipment. The same snowstorms also brought over 7 inches of the white stuff to Vail (to open November 17) and Beaver Creek (to open November 22) ski resorts, and Breckenridge (to open November 10) reported two feet of snow mid-mountain.

It's not all good news - the snowstorms brought roads to a standstill with the Interstate 70 and Loveland Pass reporting closures last week. This hasn't put skiers off though, with many cancelling their weekend plans to catch the early powder!

This year Keystone plans to open new ski terrain for snowcats (Independence Bowl) while Breckenridge will have 150 acres of new high-alpine terrain called SnowWhite. Beaver Creek will also have some new terrain to compete with Vail's world famous Back Bowls - the new Stone Creek Chutes will open this winter.
