Record Number of Deaths in Vail 07-04-08

Although Vail has enjoyed an excellent season in terms of visitor numbers and snowfall, it has also seen the highest number of deaths in a season on record at the resort. To date, seventeen skiers have died in Vail so far this season, unfortunately surpassing the record of sixteen set in the 2001/02 season.

Late season skiers in Vail are being warned as to the dangers of the conditions, and with around a week left of the season, it is hoped that there will be no more fatalities. Whilst some of the deaths have been caused by high risk cliff jumps, some of the accidents have been the result of intermediate piste runs, showing care must be taken at all times.
