Schladming to Host 2013 World Ski Championships29-05-08
The Austrian ski resort of Schladming is to host the 2013 World Ski Championships, following a vote by the sport?s governing body. At the FIS Council?s annual congress in South Africa, the Austrian bid to host the championships received 10 of the 16 votes, beating off competition from the US, Italy and Switzerland. The American bid, which would have seen the championships staged at twin resorts Vail-Beaver Creek, received four votes, whilst the Swiss bid, which would?ve seen the championships held at St Moritz , received just one vote. The Italians received just one vote, having proposed the event be held at Cortina d?Ampezzo .
It will be the seventh consecutive year that the world championships are held in Europe, with the 2009 event set to be held in Val d'Isère , followed by Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Germany in 2011. The FIS also announced the other venues for the 2013 World Ski Championships, with the snowboarding set to be held at Stoneham, the Nordic skiing in Val Di Fiemme, the freestyle skiing in Voss and the ski flying in Vikersund.
