Serbian Government to Invest in Kosovan Ski Area04-04-08
The Serbian government has announced plans to invest 40 million euros into the Brezovica Ski Centre. Despite the controversy regarding Kosovo?s ownership, the Serbian government are planning to create a new limited liability company using public money to fund the improvements. The resort, which is situated 250 miles from Belgrade, had enjoyed an excellent season up until February 17th ? the date of Kosovo?s declaration of independence.
Although the ski industry is sure to view the investment as a positive, in Kosovo and Serbia there is widespread cynicism as to the motives for the expenditure, with many believing the heavy investment to be part of a wider policy of denying Kosovo?s independence.
