Verbier off-piste
© copyright Verbier/Bagnes Tourisme
The main attraction of Verbier is that much of the off-piste is easily accessible, making it a good resort for both experienced freeskiers and up-and-coming riders looking to ski the whole mountain. With itinerary runs such as Tortan and Gentianes serviced by efficient lift systems, there is no need to hike for hours to reach challenging off-piste terrain, so it's the ideal location to get into the freeskiing vibe.
For those looking to ski the backcountry, Verbier has some of the best off-piste in all of Europe on offer. After a short hike you will be rewarded with magnificent runs such as Stairway to Heaven, Rock Garden or the adrenaline packed run down the backside of Mont Fort. This legendary mountain rises to some 3,330m and offers fantastic views of the roof of the Alps from Mount Blanc to the Matterhorn.
The Verbier Ride
Verbier is also home to the Verbier Ride www.verbierride.com, the IFSA sanctioned European Freeskiing Tour Finals, combining the three freeskiing disciplines of big mountain, skier cross and slope style. In five short years the Verbier Ride has grown from a local event for ski bums to one of the highlights of the freeskiing calendar. It embodies the spirit of freeskiing, encouraging riders to push the boundaries of the sport and developing new and exciting riders. The competition also ensures that European skiers are represented at the top level of skiing, gaining the exposure they deserve through the worldwide TV coverage it receives.
