Nassfeld / Ski schools & guiding

Nassfeld Ski School has up to 100 snowsport teachers, from as many as 11 nations, on duty at busy periods. To cater for the skiing and guests staying at different locations, it operates 4 offices and 3 assembly points. The offices are at Sonnenalpe, Sonnleitn, Tressdorfer Alm and also at the Tropolach gondola valley station.

The options for children are impressive and are run under the name of Bobo's Miniclub (Bobo is the little penguin that is the brand logo for children's ski schools in Austria). Youngsters from 2 to 5 years of age can be looked after, with an element of 'first steps on snow', including ski equipment, helmet, lunch, drinks, indoor playing and sledging in the 'children's garden' at Tressdorfer Alm. They can be left every day, except Saturday, from 9.45am until 3.30pm.

It doesn't matter where parents are staying, they can still take advantage of this option. From Tropolach, children are taken up to Tressdorfer Alm by the Millennium Express and, from the other villages of Sonnleitn and Sonnenalpe, transport is provided by the ski school. For 6 full days it costs 200 euros or 49 euros for one day.

Children from age 4 to 14 can enrol in Bobo's Children's Club with lessons and a midday meal for 6 full days from 10.15am to 3.30pm, costing 218 euros

Adult group lessons, mornings only from 10.15 to 12.45pm, are for 6 days and cost 145 euros per person. An hour's private lesson is from 39 euros for the 9am to 10am slot. But bargains are for two people to have a 3-hour private lesson in the afternoon for 145 euros or an all-day private lesson on a Friday or Saturday at the special offer price of 165 euros per person.

A 3-day snowboard group class for 2½ half hours each day costs 60 euros per person. Snowboard equipment, handily, can be rented at each ski school office.

The Nassfeld Ski School also offers courses aimed at teenagers during which they can try all the latest ways of sliding down the mountain – on twin-tip skis, airboards, snowbikes, snowtubes or snowshoes – for 169 euros for 6 days. Participants, from age 12 to 18, should be decent parallel skiers to join this course.

For off-piste and guided ski-tour options, the man to talk to is Sepp Szoke (+43 4286 458). Sepp is an experienced mountain guide who can tell you the off-piste and touring adventures available at any given time and which will be suitable for your level.

Great ski-touring is available in the Lesachtal Valley and Sepp Szoke has information on this.
