Solden / Accommodation
This is a Goldilocks sort of town – with 10,000 beds there’s
bound to be one that’s juuuust right. There is a near equal
distribution of two, three and four/five star hotels, plus an
assortment of bed and breakfast pensions. Most are on the hulking side
of traditional Austrian chalet architecture and layered on, or within
walking distance of, the main drag – though you may easily find
yourself a hike too far in ski boots from the gondolas. The three-star
Hotel Garni Sunshine is dangerously convenient for the Fire and Ice
bar.
Accommodation outside of Solden
The four-star Alphof, outside town, is convenient for the bus but requires a taxi for late evenings. The five-star Central claims one of the most extensive wine cellars in the Alps. Staying up at the ski-in ski-out hamlet of Hochsolden is a very quiet affair; staying in one of the pensions or large four stars like the Sonnenhotel may require a love of Scrabble for subdued evenings and chains for the steep nine kilometre drive back to civilisation.
