Whistler Blackcomb snow boarding & freestyle

What’s good for skis is good for boards at Whistler-Blackcomb, and as heli-boarding is also on offer, the backcountry options especially are mind-boggling.

Freeriders have plenty of bowls to snake their first tracks, while freestylers have well-groomed pipes to choose from, and carvers are just spoiled for choice whether beginner, intermediate or advanced.

Both mountains have snowboarding lessons and clinics, and there are specialized camps offering accommodations, instruction, and fun activities. Each mountain has its own (Nintendo Gamecube) terrain park and halfpipe facilities. Whistler is entry level and up, while Blackcomb is for experts, and guests need a Highest Level I.D. to access its park. The World Cup Halfpipe is located at the bottom of the Blackcomb terrain park and is considered one of the best in North America. It is cut every night with a 17-foot (5m) radius and 15-foot (4.5m) walls, and has a permanent groundshape with a 17-degree pitch. Snowmaking keeps it in shape all day. Another 16 metre pipe halfpipe was built for the 2005 World Snowboarding Championships just above the Magic Chair on Blackcomb Mountain and there is also a smaller pipe on Whistler at the top of the Emerald Express Chair.
