Whistler Blackcomb ski schools & guiding

There is one ski and snowboard school in Whistler. Its uniforms - yellow and blue for ski instructors, and blue for snowboard instructors - are distinctive marks on the mountain.

The school's programme includes group and private lessons for kids and adults, specialist freestyle and racing programs, such as the Atomic Dave Murray Race programs and particularly suited to many European clientelle is the Ski Esprite program. Ski Esprit offer daily for 3 days (typically) group lessons with the same instructors with some video analysis and an optional yet organised and informal apres ski program.

Female skiers can benefit from the women-only programmes , and the school caters well for people with disabilities. Skiers and snowboarders are graded by level (1 –6, ranging from beginnner to expert), each of which is described clearly to help prevent people from overstating or understating their abilities. Three-day and four-day group lessons typically cost Cdn$299 and Cdn$319 respectively.

A good option for those wanting to concentrate on off-piste skills is the resort's 'Extremely Canadian' off-shoot programme where top big mountain and freestyle skiers / snowboarders conduct courses in small groups.

Children at Whistler
There is an excellent and comprehensive program available for children, starting with an infant childcare program for babies aged 3–18 months. The toddler program for 18 months to three years includes both indoor and outdoor play time in a special childcare facility. Whistler Kids offers various skiing and snowboarding programs to children aged 3–17 years of all ability levels. All programs include lunch. Advance registration (604-932-3434) is strongly recommended.

Free guided tours are offered daily for intermediates and experts at 11:30 am. Whistler Mountain Tour runs from the Guest Satisfaction Center under the lightboard at the top of the Whistler Village Gondola, and Blackcomb Mountain Tour starts from the top of the Solar Coaster Express. The Blackcomb Glacier Tour starts from the same place, weather permitting.
