Megève

One of France?s most upmarket winter destinations, and latest member of the elite 'Best of the Alps' collection of resorts, Megève has a huge ski area with more than 400km of pisted runs. Its location just over an hour from Geneva makes it a popular choice for both short breaks and family holidays, and non-skiers have plenty to keep them entertained in and around resort.
Megève is a traditional Savoyard town, very popular with the French although more and more overseas visitors are discovering its charms. There are no huge hotels or other mass market elements: indeed, this is one of the main attractions of the pretty medieval town with its narrow, cobbled streets and exclusive boutiques.

Off-piste

The off-piste is very good in Megève and is often left unskied for weeks at a time outside of peak season. The majority of the off-piste is not particularly avalanche prone and there is plenty of tree skiing. Care needs to be taken though at Cote 2000 and Mont Joly which are steeper and more avalanche prone.
