Treble Cone / Village

Treble Cone draws most of its visitors from the idyllic lakeside town of Wanaka (small town, big lake) where the atmosphere is in almost total contrast to the bustling tourist town of Queenstown, 64 miles away if you take the closest route along New Zealand’s highest main road. Dominated by the sleepy lake – 42km by 10km – Wanaka is at the heart of the Mount Aspiring National Park, and arguably more of a skiers’ town than the tourist town of Queenstown. But since it is also smaller, accommodation becomes harder to find during the peak season.

Wanaka (26km/35min drive from ski area) has a big selection, with everything from smart hotels and lakeside apartments to back-packer rooms. Most people would like lakeside rooms, and there are plenty, but they are inevitably more expensive.
