Transfer to Arosa by train
From Zürich to Arosa is quicker by road, but the train journey is an easy and relaxing alternative.
Take one of the regular fast trains from Zürich International Airport to Zürich City Hauptbahnhof from where trains depart hourly to Chur. At Chur change to the Rhätische Bahn single gauge light railway which winds its way up to Arosa at the upper end of the Schanfigg Valley.
From the airport to the main railway station in Zürich takes under 15 minutes and Zürich to Chur takes one and a half hours or less then its one hour by train from Chur to Arosa. Changing trains easily at Zurich Hbf and Chur, in each case you have 10-15 minutes to catch the connecting train and the total journey time from Zürich to Arosa takes about 3 hours.
The last train arrives in Arosa just before midnight and leaves Chur one hour earlier. To make this connection you need to get to Zürich Hbf by about 9pm to catch the train in time for the last train from Chur to Arosa.

Driving to Arosa
From Zürich to Arosa by car, take the A-11 autobahn from Zürich International Airport to Zürich city, drive through the city centre then follow the A-3/13 autobahn to Chur then the winding mountain road (365 bends) from Chur to Arosa. It takes about 2-2½ hours to complete the 100 mile (160kms) car journey from Zürich to Arosa and snow chains are important mid-Winter, not only for the journey up from Chur but also when driving in Arosa, which is hilly. No parking restrictions apply to the whole of Arosa except for specifically allocated parking zones which are marked "P", but there is a free bus service so a car is not needed day to day. Travel in and around Arosa by bus
There are three free bus routes running at regular intervals throughout the day:
Hőrnliexpress-Weisshornbahn (red route) at 10-minute intervals
Hőrnliexpress-Prätschli (yellow route) at 20-minute intervals
Hőrnliexpress-Untersee (blue route) also every 20-minutes.
If staying in Arosa but planning to ski mainly on Hőrnli, which often holds the best snow, it’s a good idea to avoid the cable car up Tschuggen and take the red route bus which runs between Arosa's main cable car station and the Hőrnliexpress gondola.
From around 8pm until 2am a paid-for Night Express Bus service (CHF 3.- per person) operates in both directions between Prätschli and Kulm and allows you to get on or off at any point in the village.
