Fluchthorn (3,790m)
Three-hour climb across the Hohlaub and Allalin glaciers, with final crampon ascent to the peak for huge views to all points of the compass – across the Italian plains to the south and east, the Monte Rosa massif to the west, and the Bernese Oberland to the north. The exceptional descent, mainly glaciated but with good pitch on the middle and lower sections, emerges below the dam of the Mattmark lake at 2,000m, from where a gentle path leads toward Saas Almagell.
Allalinpass (3,564m) to Täsch
Easy two-hour climb to the Allalinpass for the superb descent to Täsch in the Zermatt valley.
Adlerpass (3,789m) to Zermatt
Three-hour climb to the Adlerpass followed by the descent of the Findel glacier towards Zermatt, emerging below the slopes of the Stockhorn and the Rothorn.
Strahlhorn (4,190m)
Five hours climbing, via the Adlerpass – long but not exceptionally strenuous – reaches this 4,000m peak, almost entirely on skis, with the final metres on crampons. A long gentle descent of the Allalin glacier is your reward.
Alphubel (4,206m)
Four hours steep climbing is followed by a fabulous descent.
Allalin (4,027m)
This two-and-a-half-hour climb of the easiest of the ‘4,000ers’ departs from Mittelallalin at 3,500m, climbing via Feejoch to the peak. It's normally climbed and descended on crampons, so even non-skiers can attempt it for the views of Mont-Blanc, the Matterhorn and Piz Bernina.
