Some people prefer to stay at the base of the lifts in one of Alta’s unique lodgings or condominium properties, knowing they are just steps away from skiing the next morning. Others enjoy the ambience of Salt Lake City’s much wider variety of lodging options and don’t mind a short drive up the canyon as a trade-off for a "night on the town".

Each of the five lodges at the base of the mountain has a unique history and a story to tell. They are Alta Lodge, Alta Peruvian Lodge, Goldminer’s Daughter Lodge, Rustler Lodge and Snowpine Lodge. As well as these there are condos within a mile (1.6 km) radius of the village that sleep another 1,137 guests. Blackjack and Hellgate are two choices. Private homes are also within walking distance of the village.
